I was recently reading about Complex PTSD, which is a form of post-traumatic stress disorder that results from prolonged and severe stress. Some research suggests that if the trauma occurs in early childhood, it can result in lasting changes to the hippocampus region of the brain. This rang a bell. When I researched it, I found that face recognition does involve the hippocampus. What the significance of this is, I cannot say, but the possibility of a connection is intriguing.
